The Tides of Eternity was written for my daughter just as she began her teen years and entered her journey into womanhood. As her Dad, she and I were separated by thousands of geographical miles, because she lived on the other side of the county with her Mom. I never lacked the desire to do all the little things, like tuck her in at night and read her bedtime stories - in fact, I very much wanted to do those things for both her and her brother. But, I couldn't. I was a telephone Dad, who visited as often as work and finances allowed. So, I wrote my daughter a fantasy novel with God as a central character who guided two strong heroines with whom she could identify, who face and overcome some tremendous obstacles. As I would write, I would read the story to her over the phone, and when she visited, she read chapters I'd completed. Both she and I, and my son, became immersed in the story world, the Kingdom of Erylon, in the land of Keokuk. Together, we crafted a fabulous tale filled with real Scriptural allusions and some great values and wisdom. My son and daughter grew to be faithful, hopeful and loving. It took 9 years to write The Tides of Eternity. When my daughter grew up, I put her on the front cover as the strong and faithful Prophetess Gailel holding the Great Sword Xye'gan Tye, and published the novel as a gift to both she and my son, who is the inspiration for Prince Tylen Elriapmi, heir to the throne of Erylon. One of my readers remarked, "This is a story of good versus evil; it's a fantasy, but it's like real life." I've never known anyone not to enjoy it. I highly recommend it to Mom's and Dad's who want to give their children an alternative to pop fantasy - along with entertainment and wisdom. Scraps of Life Book Club Review While I must first admit that I don't read a lot of fantasy books, I do have a certain mind set when it comes to the genre. When I was handed the book to read, I really thought I didn't have to look past the cover to know what this book would be. That is why I was so surprised by the book,The Tides of Eternity by M. J. Rusaw.
This book doesn't fit with my normal concept of fantasy fiction for several reasons. The most glaringly obvious reason is that a main character is God. Having God in a position of power and authority in a fantasy book took me by surprise. To take this change from "normal" fantasy even farther, the main character is female, and she is no shrinking violet! She is brave, faithful and courageous. I love that there is an absence of some of the negative influences in normal fantasy fiction writing and is really just the story of an adventure, a journey taken while remaining in the hands of our faithful God.
I struggled a bit with the language of the book. It is written in such a way to make it sound appropriate for the time. I think if I were more of a regular fantasy reader, I would have had less difficulty.
On the front cover of the book, it describes the story as "a fairy tale for grown ups", and I think it works very well in that role, however, I wouldn't pigeon hole it that way and am planning to add it to my 12 year old son's "To Be Read" stack. He enjoys fantasy fiction, and I will enjoy relaxing while he reads this one.
On an interesting note, while I was reading this book I discovered that there are several high tech options for fans to express themselves, talk to other fans of the books, and visit with the author!

The other thing we thought was interesting with this book is that the author wrote it for his daughter. Very touching.

I loved this book for it's well versed story line and the hidden wisdom behind the words. I would recommend this book to everyone I know. I have to say that I loved the character of the prophetess Gailel because of her passion and yet at the same time innocence as she encountered many trials on her journey. This book inspires courage, faith and strength to never give up! If you haven't read this, I hope you do!
This is a story for every imagination. I laughed, got angry, sweated during the battle sequences, and cried with the characters. The Tides of Eternity is a very visual adventure, one that commands the attention of the reader. M.J. Rusaw writes through passion, adventure, excitement and fantasy. I loved it all. Anyone who enjoys adventure, romance, battle, mystery, betrayal and faithful friends will love this novel- I highly recommend the read!

I noted that a friend of mine recommended this book on , so I checked it out. I didn't make it to the first chapter before I fell in love with Mr. Rusaw's writing style. Mr. Rusaw has a great talent for creating an awesome environment inside the reader's mind to set the stage for an adventure. There have not been very many books where I have felt like I was witnessing the events of the story first hand, but this book made me think that I was there. Adding to that, this tale was a fantastic adventure where the heroine is living a perfect fantasy life until one day when tragedy strikes, then she must save her world relying on faith in her God to lead her through. Mr. Rusaw is able to touch the reader's soul by guiding the heroine through many of the questions that we have as human beings. In the end, this book gave me great hope for the future and verified my faith in God. Knowing that this adventure was written out of pure love for the author's daughter is very touching and brings a real life feel to the story. I would really like to see everyone that I know have a chance to enjoy this tale of love and hope, I think it will make your heart smile! Thank God for M.J. Rusaw and thank God for my friend that recommended this to me!
